Drive to Franschhoek - Thankfully we only had to back track once and then go on one dirt road
View over the town
Walking around town
De Hollandsemollen campsite - beautiful view over the river with the mountains in the background (had to search to find this spot though)
Campsite review:
Weird all around...
The first view is of the swimming pool which feels like an unpleasant public pool. Then it starts to make sense with the small permanent quaint holiday homes along the river. But the campsite just seemed to be full of people who didn't need a good view and teenagers who just wanted to party with loud music. Thankfully an Afrikaans mom crapped on them!
The ablutions were also weird! You had a tag to get into so you felt a bit like you were reliving a normal day in Johannesburg! There was one roll of toilet paper for everyone at the front so it felt cheap. And while the bathrooms were very mod looking, their fancy gas boilers were difficult to work...literally I found one that started warm on my third try, but still had to keep adjusting the knob. For my first two it was either freezing our boiling! And all the cheap locks on the toilet our shower doors gave problems!
But the management was very friendly, although maybe a bit overboard which can only come from a place which usually only accepts members in December...So we are grateful they gave us a place to stay for the night!
Their saving grace was the clear river they had dammed up for swimming in...though it was freezing!
